Computer Output Devices – Types, Uses and History
Those Devices which Communicate with Computer and provide output to user or Device by Output Devices to Inputted Data. Following are some Output Devices Examples:
Types of Output Devices
1- Monitor
Monitor is a Display Unit of Computer to display the data on screen. It creates images from tiny, rectangular-shaped dots, or pixels, that are placed in a specific pattern. The number and size of the pixels affect the depth and sharpness of the image. Following are the some types of Monitor:
- LCD (Liquid Crystal Display)
- LED (Light Emitting Diode)
- CRT (Cathode Ray Tube)
- TFT (Thin Film Transistor)
2- Printer
Printer is also an Output device for Print a Hard Copy of Text, Images, Documents, Banners etc. In order to reproduce text and high-quality images, printers frequently use either lasers or inkjets to accurately place ink onto the paper.. Two types of Printer are mostly used today:
- Impact Printers
- Non-Impact Printers
2.1- Impact Printers
We could say Impact Printer to those have a hammer or head as well as a Mechanism based, who helps to print the text and images by pressing or strikes on a ink ribbon to print the data on Paper. Following are some examples of Impact Printer:
- Dot Matrix printers
- Daisy Wheel printers
- Line printers
- Drum printers
- Chain printers

2.2- Non-Impact Printers
Non-impact printers do not uses any head or hammer to strike for print characters or images on the ink ribbon placed against the paper. They print characters and images without any physical Mechanism between the paper and the printing machinery. These printers, often known as page printers, can print an entire page at a time. Following are some Examples of Non-Impact Printer:
- Laser Printer
- Inkjet Printer
2.2.1- Laser Printers
A Laser Printer uses a laser beam to print the Data on Paper. Laser Beam draws the image on the drum (photo receptor) by altering electrical charges on the drum. Then the toner is rolled into the drum, where the charged image picks it up. Then Toner print on the paper using heat and pressure. The drum loses its electric charge after the paper has been printed, and any remaining toner is recovered. Instead of using liquid ink, laser printers print with powdered toner, which results in high-quality printed materials.

2.2.2- Inkjet Printers
As the paper is fed through the printer, the printer head oscillates back and forth, spraying ionized dots of ink onto the paper. In order to print the right symbols and images on the paper, these drops of ink pass through an electric field. The four colors used by modern inkjet printers are cyan, magenta, yellow, and black (CYMK). It has the ability to print vibrant photos of high quality. At least 300 dots per inch (dpi) of resolution can be achieved while printing things.
